The success of Porsche lies within their most popular sports car, the Porsche 911. The 8th Generation of the Porsche 911 was launched at the end of 2019. Finally, the much anticipated 992 Targa made its debut to the line-up once again. Yes, a little late to the party; but what an entrance!
The Porsche 911 Targa is probably one of the most iconic models in the 911 family when it was first introduced in 1965. Back then it was considered the safer open top option compared to the 911 Cabriolet due to safety with roll-over. The most notable characteristic of the Targa is the full width roll over bar just behind the seats. It originally came in brushed aluminum and later available in black with 3 shark looking gills on each side as a trademark. Known for its semi-convertible feature and rear dome glass, it has been very well received. Although it is heavier than the coupe version, the Porsche 911 Targa will give you a sensational driving experience.
As the 911 evolved over the years, so has the Targa. From the open canvas top to a full glass roof found in the 996 and 997, Porsche decided to bring back the roll bars with the 991 model. In my opinion, the 991 generation of the Targa was the most interesting of the 911 family. With a touch a of button, the entire dome glass in the rear of the car opened like a clam shell electronically, while retracting the canvas top in behind the rear passenger seats before closing the dome glass back completely in approximately 19 seconds. This sure beat removing the top manually and stowing it in the frunk of the car.
The 2021 Porsche 911 Targa kept the DNA of the 991 and shares the characteristics of the 992 chassis and wide body along with its upgraded interior and infotainment console. The Targa 4 and Targa 4S are currently the options available. In celebration of its iconic history, the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Edition is offered and is limited to 992 units globally. You can now configure one online with all the packages and options that are available. When you combine the design elements of the early years with the most innovative and latest sports car performance found in the Targa 4S: “THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE!”
